The Ford Bronco is a well-known and highly regarded full-size SUV platform that has been a significant resurgence in recent years. New for 2021 is the more diminutive version, the Bronco Sport, which is a smaller kin of the big Bronco SUV but still packs a good wallop for off-roading with one of two economical motors delivering good power. Several models offering subtle variations of essentially the same great package that is smaller, lighter and more affordable than the full-size Bronco SUV.

Every Bronco Sport model comes with 4X4 drivetrains and eight-speed automatic transmissions to smooth out the power delivery. Two engines offer exceptional fuel economy while delivering good power to all four drive wheels while a pair of bucket seats in front and a spilt rear bench seat up to five passengers in good comfort. Four doors and a rear lift gate give ample access to the interior, which holds more than 65 cubic feet of cargo space.

A wheelbase measuring just a hair more than 105 inches ensures the Bronco Sport has excellent stability and maneuverability under reasonable driving conditions. The wheelbase also enables the smaller Bronco to go where its big brother cannot while still offering a reasonably comfortable ride and excellent fuel economy.

Two Great Motors Provide Ample Power

The Bronco Sport comes standard with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine that displaces 1.5 liters and is good for up to 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is rated at an estimated 28 mpg on the highway and 25 while driving in the city. It can tow up to a ton when equipped with a towing package.

Ford also offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that is good for up to 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Those impressive numbers greatly improve power and handling while boosting towing capacity slightly to 2,200 pounds. The engine is rated for an estimated 26 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city. All Bronco Sport models have a 16-gallon fuel tank that ensures it gets good driving range between fill-ups.
